Hire TypeScript Developers in India: Salary & Cost Guide

Hire TypeScript Developers in India: Cost & Process
TL;DR
  • Cost: TypeScript developers in India earn $3,500 to $7,400 a year at 0 to 3 years (₹3.3 to ₹7 lakh) and $16,800 to $31,600 and above past five years (₹16 to ₹30+ lakh).
  • The band depends on the stack underneath: TypeScript on its own is a discipline, not a job. What you pay is set by whether it sits on React, on Node.js, or across both.
  • Fully loaded cost: add roughly 5 percent to gross. Provident Fund is capped at ₹15,000 of monthly wages and Employees' State Insurance does not apply above ₹21,000 a month.
  • To start: post the role and every applicant is screened and ranked against your criteria automatically. Employment, payroll and compliance are handled once you pick someone.

$8,400 to $16,800 a year (₹8 to ₹16 lakh) is what it costs to hire TypeScript developers in India at mid level, and that range is wide for a reason. We have built India teams for 300+ companies, and TypeScript is the one skill where the salary band tells you almost nothing on its own.

A full time employee. Contract and agency rates fold in margin you never pay on a salary, so the two numbers are not comparable however the invoice is worded. For a permanent hire, post the role and we will screen and rank every applicant against your criteria.

TypeScript and JavaScript are not separate hires. TypeScript is JavaScript with a type system added, so whoever you hire is a JavaScript engineer working in a typed codebase. If your code is plain JavaScript, hiring JavaScript engineers is the closer guide. What actually moves the salary is what sits underneath: React on the front end or Node.js on the back end.

What does it cost to hire a TypeScript developer in India?

TypeScript salaries in India start around $3,500 a year (₹3.3 lakh) at entry level and reach $16,800 to $31,600 and above (₹16 to ₹30+ lakh) past five years. The spread is unusually wide because TypeScript is a layer rather than a job, so the same label covers a junior front end developer and a senior platform engineer.

TypeScript developer salary in India by experience level
LevelExperienceINR (LPA)USD/year
Junior0 to 3 years₹3.3 to ₹7 lakh$3,500 to $7,400
Mid-level3 to 5 years₹8 to ₹16 lakh$8,400 to $16,800
Senior5 to 8+ years₹16 to ₹30+ lakh$16,800 to $31,600+

Two things move these numbers. The first is what TypeScript is paired with: engineers who use it across both a React front end and a Node.js back end sit at the top of every band, because they can own a feature end to end. The second is city, and Bengaluru and Hyderabad pay roughly 20 to 30 percent above smaller Indian cities. The same pattern holds across other stacks in India.

What is the fully loaded cost of a TypeScript developer in India?

Roughly 5 percent on top of gross. The Indian statutory system caps contributions at low monthly wage thresholds, so at engineering salaries the effective rate collapses to almost nothing. Loading figures of 40 to 60 percent describe what an agency adds, not what the state takes.

India statutory employer costs, and where they apply
ComponentRateApplies (Central or State)
Employees' Provident Fund (retirement savings, similar to a 401(k))12% employer, 12% employee, on wages up to ₹15,000 a monthCentral
Employees' State Insurance (state-run health cover for lower-paid staff)3.25% employer, 0.75% employee, only where wages are ₹21,000 a month or belowCentral
GratuityAccrues from year one, payable after five years of continuous serviceCentral
Professional taxUp to ₹2,500 a year, varies by stateState
Leave encashmentAccrues against unused leave, per policyState rules on leave

Worked example on a ₹12 lakh package, about $12,600. Provident Fund sits at ₹1,800 a month each side, because the ₹15,000 wage ceiling caps it. Employees' State Insurance does not apply, since ₹1 lakh a month is far above the ₹21,000 threshold. Gratuity accrues at about $302 a year, leave encashment $258, health insurance $105. Total lands near $13,200 a year.

Run your own numbers with the Employee Cost Calculator, see take home pay with the Salary Calculator and the Gratuity Calculator, or read what an India employee costs across roles. Gross salary and CTC, the Indian total-cost-to-company figure including employer contributions, are not the same number.

How do you evaluate a TypeScript developer in India?

Ask how often they reach for any, the keyword that switches type checking off for a value. Strong candidates treat it as a last resort and can name what they use instead when a type is genuinely unknown. Engineers who sprinkle it through a codebase are writing JavaScript with extra ceremony and none of the safety.

  • Strict mode reality: Ask whether their last codebase ran with the strictest checks turned on, and what those checks caught. A great many codebases that call themselves TypeScript run with strictness disabled, which removes most of the benefit and is the single fastest thing to probe.
  • Inference versus annotation: Ask where they let the compiler work a type out for itself and where they write it down explicitly. Annotating everything is a beginner tell; knowing that inference handles most cases, and that the boundaries of a module are where you spell things out, is not.
  • Migration debt: Most TypeScript codebases started life as JavaScript. Ask how they handled the conversion and what they did with the parts that would not convert cleanly. Good answers describe converting file by file and tracking the suppressions they left behind, rather than one heroic rewrite.
  • Types as design: Ask them to describe a time the type system caught a real bug before it shipped. Engineers who use types to model what is actually possible in their domain give concrete answers. Those treating TypeScript as a formality will describe a typo.

Skip the tier-1 college filter. Across our placements the strongest TypeScript developers often come from outside the top ranked institutions, and screening on institution removes people who learned by shipping products. The same is true for other engineering roles in India.

Where do the best TypeScript developers in India work?

TypeScript is the default for new JavaScript work, so the pool is broad rather than concentrated. The depth sits where codebases are large enough for types to earn their keep: software-as-a-service products, fintech, marketplaces, and the platform teams inside global capability centers. Services firms use it too, though often with strictness turned off on older projects.

Bengaluru and Hyderabad pay roughly 20 to 30 percent more than smaller Indian cities, which is the usual pattern rather than an exception. Pune, the Delhi capital region and Chennai all have real depth at lower cost, and because TypeScript work is overwhelmingly remote-friendly, the city premium is easier to avoid here than for roles that expect an office.

Building a team rather than one hire changes the city calculus. Global capability centers in India compares cost and talent depth, and remote engineers working with US clients covers timezone overlap.

How long does it take to hire a TypeScript developer in India?

Notice period dominates everything else. India has no statutory employer notice period for most roles, so the wait is set entirely by the contract your candidate already signed, and Indian technology contracts frequently run long. Sourcing and interviewing are fast by comparison. Budget for the notice, not the search.

Typical timeline to hire a TypeScript developer in India
StageTypical duration
Post the role and publish the job postSame day
Applicants screened and rankedAutomatic, as they apply
Interviews and selectionYour pace, commonly 1 to 2 weeks
Offer and acceptanceA few days
Notice period at current employerSet by their contract, often the longest stage
Onboarding to first working dayWithin days once notice is served

Before you promise a start date, drop the assumption that Indian states mandate 30 days of notice. Maharashtra's 1948 Act carried that rule and was repealed in December 2017; its replacement prescribes none. What binds is the candidate's own contract. Open the role early.

What is the best way to employ a TypeScript developer in India?

For one to fifty hires, an Employer of Record is the fastest compliant route. You get a full time employee with statutory benefits and clean IP assignment, so your company owns the code, without registering an Indian company. Contractors start quickly but carry misclassification exposure. Your own entity makes sense once the team is large and permanent.

Misclassification is the risk that outlives the saving. Indian authorities look at the substance of the working relationship rather than its paperwork, so a contractor on your hours, your systems and your direction is an employee in law. Test exposure with the Employee Misclassification Check, compare routes with the EOR vs Entity Calculator, and read EOR vs contractor vs direct hire or the full comparison of India hiring routes. Already have an entity? PEO services in India fits better.

How does hiring a TypeScript developer through Wisemonk work?

Two things happen: we find the person, and we employ them in India on your behalf. Interviewing and day to day direction stay with you. Contract, payroll, Provident Fund, gratuity, tax and filings stay with us, and you register nothing in India.

  1. Post the role: one line of brief becomes a live, branded job post.
  2. AI screens: every applicant is scored and ranked against your criteria.
  3. You interview: built in video, AI summaries and rubric scorecards.
  4. They join: Wisemonk employs them in India and takes over payroll and compliance.

We manage 2,000+ EOR employees, process $20M+ in payroll, and hold 4.8/5 on G2. Post your TypeScript role to start screening candidates, or talk to our team about the hire first.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire a TypeScript developer in India?

Salaries run about $3,500 to $7,400 a year (₹3.3 to ₹7 lakh) at 0 to 3 years and $16,800 to $31,600 and above (₹16 to ₹30+ lakh) past five years. Statutory contributions add roughly 5 percent, because Provident Fund and State Insurance are capped at low wage thresholds.

Should I hire a TypeScript developer or a JavaScript developer?

They are the same hire. TypeScript is JavaScript with a type system added, so ask for TypeScript experience as a requirement rather than treating it as a separate role. What genuinely changes the shortlist is whether you need front end, back end or both.

Why is the TypeScript salary range so wide?

Because TypeScript is a discipline rather than a job. The same label covers a junior building front end screens and a senior designing a shared type system across services. Decide what sits underneath, React or Node.js or both, and the band narrows immediately.

Can I hire a TypeScript developer in India without setting up a company?

Yes. An Employer of Record employs the person in India on your behalf, so you get a full time employee without registering an Indian entity. Hiring in India without an entity covers how the arrangement works in practice, including contracts and payroll.

Should I hire a TypeScript developer as a contractor instead?

Only for genuinely project based work with a defined end. Ongoing full time work under your direction is employment in substance under Indian law, whatever the contract says, and misclassification carries back contributions and penalties. Contractor hiring in India covers when contracting fits.

How long is the notice period for developers in India?

Statute sets none for most Indian roles. The period is contractual, and technology contracts there frequently run long. Check what your candidate actually signed before you commit to a date, because the commonly repeated figures do not come from any law at all.

Why hire TypeScript developers in India through Wisemonk?

India is not one country among many for us; it is the entire business. 300+ global clients, 2,000+ EOR employees under management, $20M+ in payroll processed, 4.8/5 on G2. We both recruit the engineer and employ them, so accountability stays in one place.
